As an archipelagic country, Indonesia observes several public holidays all year round, classified into four types: religious, national, international, and commemorative. When a “red date” or “tanggal merah” appears on the calendar, it indicates a national holiday, and most institutions, including government offices, schools, banks, and businesses, will remain closed. In addition to the official public holidays, the government provides collective/joint leave days that apply to public/private sectors as well.

These breaks can be a great opportunity for workers to take a moment to pause and refresh. In this article, we will take a brief and simple look at how useful these breaks can be, as well as explore some potential activities to enjoy during our time off.

Shared Benefit

Leave is a type of time off from work that can be very beneficial for both employees and employers. There are many benefits to taking leave, including reducing stress and burnout, giving employees a much-needed break from work-related stressors, and boosting their self-esteem. Leave can also help create a more supportive and cohesive workplace community. So, taking time off can be good for you and your employer too!

A Wealth of Things to Do

There are countless activities that employees can engage in during their leave days, depending on their interests, preferences, and availability. Here are five activities for you:

  1. Travel: Many people use their leave days to travel and explore new destinations.
  2. Spend time with family and friends: Leave days can be an excellent opportunity to catch up with loved ones and spend quality time together.
  3. Pursue hobbies and interests: Leave days can provide employees with the chance to engage in activities they enjoy but may not have time for during their regular work week. This can include hobbies such as gardening, painting, or playing sports.
  4. Be with nature: Spending time in nature can be a great way to get exercise and enjoy the beauty of nature itself.
  5. Finally, some people may choose to use their leave days to simply relax and recharge. This can involve activities such as reading, meditating, etc.

As writers, we must navigate the delicate balance between our personal needs and those of our companions during joint leaves. Embracing the concept of “pause and refresh,” we can honor our own needs while simultaneously cultivating a shared experience that is fulfilling and enriching for everyone involved. In doing so, we create a space of mutual respect, where each individual is free to explore their creativity while remaining mindful of the needs of others.

By striking this harmonious balance, we can emerge from our joint leaves feeling renewed, inspired, and more deeply connected to both ourselves and those around us.
