The Notion

The idea of motivation is the key to our goals is often emphasized. We hear phrases like “Stay motivated,” “Find your motivation,” and “Keep your motivation up” frequently, implying that motivation is the ultimate solution for achieving our goals and aspirations in the working environment.

However, is there something more powerful than motivation that can drive us forward even when we lack motivation? This concept is worth exploring because although motivation is essential, it may not always be sufficient to reach our desired destination.

An Underlying Term

Have you ever wondered if there’s anything stronger than motivation? Well, before we answer that, let’s take a moment to define what motivation really means.

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), motivation is ”the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors”

The Oxford Dictionary defines motivation as “a reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way

In the field of management and organizational behavior, motivation is defined as “the psychological processes that underlie the direction, intensity, and persistence of behavior or thought” (Organizational Behavior by Stephen Robbins and Timothy Judge).

The Question Behind It

Motivation can be defined in different ways, depending on various factors that affect an individual’s behavior. It is a combination of internal and external forces that push one towards a specific objective. Additionally, motivation can be shaped by cultural, social, and economic influences, making it a dynamic and ever-changing phenomenon. This complexity implies that motivation is a multifaceted concept that can be understood from multiple perspectives. The question arises, is there something more powerful than motivation?

The Power of Desire

When it comes to achieving our goals, motivation can only take us so far.

What really gets us going is desire — that burning passion that drives us.

With desire as our driving force, we become unstoppable and will stop at nothing to achieve our aspirations. We take ownership of our actions, and every challenge becomes an opportunity to prove ourselves. So forget just being motivated; tap into your innermost desires and watch yourself soar to new heights!

When we feel like we have a say in what we do, we are more likely to approach the task with enthusiasm and commitment, which can lead to greater satisfaction.
